
Getting Your PCB Curing Right with Gallium Iodide Lamps
If you’re working with PCB photoresists, you know that getting the cure just right is a bit of an art. That’s where our gallium iodide lamps come in. We’ve tuned these specifically to hit the absorption bands of the photo-initiators in your dry-film or liquid resists. Basically, they provide the exact kind of light your resist needs to harden properly.
The secret is in the spectrum
Most standard UV lamps just don’t cut it here. Our emitters shift the peak output toward longer UV wavelengths, which is a big deal. Why? Because it lets the light actually sink deeper into the resist layer. You end up with a cure that’s consistent from the top all the way to the bottom. No soft spots. We’ve spent a lot of time calibrating the wattage and voltage so your irradiance stays steady across the whole panel. But a word of warning:**don’t just crank them to max.**If you do, the heat can actually warp your thinner substrates. You’ve got to find that sweet spot between your conveyor speed and the lamp’s intensity so you don’t bake your boards.
Built to take a beating
We use high-purity fused quartz for the lamp envelopes. We do this because regular glass sucks up UV light, which kills the lamp way too early. Production lines are brutal. The constant start-stop cycles put a lot of stress on the seals, but these are engineered to handle that thermal shock. One tip:**keep them cool.**We really recommend a dedicated airflow system to stop the quartz from getting too hot. If you skip the venting, you’re going to see your lamp life plummet. It’s just not worth the risk.
Dropping them into your line
The best part? These are designed to be drop-in replacements for your current UV stages. We offer a few different end-cap options, so they should slide right into your existing sockets. You won’t need to rewire your entire rack just to get them running. Since these lamps pack so much energy, you might even be able to shrink the footprint of your curing tunnel. Just double-check your power supplies. Gallium iodide chemistry has a specific inrush current. If the voltage is off, you’ll burn through a lamp in a couple of hours.Check your specs first.
