Most people look at UV lamps as just another part to swap out when it dies. But honestly? That lamp is what actually dictates how fast your line can run. When you’re curing ink on garments or print runs, you aren’t just looking for “light.” You need the right kind of energy hitting the ink at exactly the right moment. If the wattage is off or the wavelength doesn’t play nice with your photoinitiator, you end up with a nightmare: surfaces that stay tacky to the touch or, even worse, scorched fabric. The balancing act of power and heat Here is the thing about UV output. It’s a tug-of-war between voltage, current, and the gas mix inside that quartz tube. Sure, cranking up the wattage increases the irradiance, which means you can speed up your conveyor and get more done. But there’s a catch. Pushing all that power into a short tube generates a ton of heat. If your cooling fans or water jackets can’t keep up, your tube end-caps will fail or the quartz will get cloudy. Then you’re right back where you started. Why the glass actually matters We stick with high-purity fused quartz because it lets the UV light through without fighting it.
